As the economy continues to turn around, there are some elements that retailers should apply to better leverage the comeback. From a paid search perspective, Gibson recommends that retailers update their keywords based on incoming inventory.

During the recession, many retailers cut back on their inventory. Now that the economy is starting to improve, they are ordering more products. Gibson says retailers need to make sure that their new inventory is represented in paid search. He also adds that retailers need to optimize pages to guarantee that they are found in the search engines. Ultimately, no one will benefit if the new inventory cannot be found.

• “For sale” signs litter every street and road
• Storefronts stand empty
• Out-of-business signs hang in boarded up windows

The American businessman and consumer are flat on their back s—trapped out of funds and in need of real economic growth to provide jobs and profits.

What did they get from Uncle Sam instead? Brand-new sidewalks in front of these boarded up businesses and deserted development projects. Potholes filled on streets that are half as busy with fewer people going to work and fewer truckers moving the goods.

Whether you like it or not, our old way of doing business is going to change.  And so will the availability of inventories.

Small business owners are the backbone of America—and yet they’re facing the strongest headwinds of their lifetimes. They’re facing tax hikes, healthcare burdens, rising interest rates and inflation.

They’re not hiring, and no amount of government spin will hide that fact:

• The U.S.’s (reported) unemployment rate currently stands at a whopping 9.5%.
• Payrolls have dropped substantially since President Obama took office—130,470,000 today versus 133,549,000 in January 2009.
• Jobless claims have increased three of the last five months.

There is no such thing as a “jobless recovery.”Without jobs, Americans aren’t going to spend. So the biggest driver of economic growth in the U.S.—“domestic consumption” will continue to lag.
